The Failure of the First Covenant - Hebrews 8:6-9 A. It was rooted in human effort - Galatians 3:21-24 1. It was not possible for fallen sinful man to ever obtain to the righteous standard of God 2. Without power of the Holy Spirit working within the saints we could not today fulfill the righteous standards B. The repeated failures of the Children of Israel to obey God’s Law 1. Their spiritual leaders were sinners - Hebrews 7:27-28 2. They broke the covenant from the Exodus until the Exile 3. The context of the quotation from Jeremiah 31:31-34 II.The New Covenant - Hebrews 8:10-13 A. The Law would be located not on tablets of stone but on the heart of the believing saint 1. The work of God’s Holy Spirit on the believer is to transform us into the image of Christ - Romans 8:26-30 2. The Spirit transforms our mind, developing in us the mind of Christ - Philippians 2:5-7 3. We obey not out of abject slavish submission but out of a heart transformed by the Love of Christ - John 14:15 B. The society of the Kingdom will be populated by perfected saints 1.
